Mood: waiting for wind
12th May 2009
Windsurfing: Pevensey Bay
Wind Direction: NE
Wind Stength: strong
Surf / Sea State: some waves
Air Temperature: ok
Sea Temperature: ok
Weather: sunny and windy from the wrong side
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Decent prospect for afterwork waveboard session and the the NE direction had Pevesey Bay written all over it.
I certainly wasn't going to be sailing alone based ont he forecast, as it's a regular occurance for Shorumites to visit the Bay for NE winds.

Sure enough I get there and the car park was pretty full already, some familiar faces and some 'visitors' there to enjoy the conditions.

I was pretty surprised to find that it wasn't as windy as expected ... having driven down wondering if i should go home and pick up the 3.7m or if I could just manage with the 4.2m.

So, I get there and find that people are on 4.7m - 6.0m and opting for their floatier waveboards too .... Basher is sub 70kgs and was 4.7m and 80ltr evil twin .... so, with limited options, I went for the twin 84 and a 5.3m Ego, and was expecting to suffer a touch.

Sure enough, I suffered, but not as expected .... due to port tack confusement, ie becoming starboard tack biased recently, i managed to twist my left hip beach starting of all things on first run out. Combination of lack of port tack practice and not being particularly 'warmed up' before going out.

Excuses aside, I spent the session on too small a board at times, with too small a sail, yet at other times on the right size board and too big a sail ... as has been described in other session reports, the wind was punchy with super strong gusts and then holes .... pukka leerdammer wind!!

Ended up way downwind as tide and rip and waves were all heading towards the harbour and wind was conspiring with them. . . . longest walk in ages .... Val Princeps road FFS !!! Another couple of runs and I could have popped into the sailing club !

Not my finest session, in fact sailed like a complete numpty, partly due to hurting myself, but mainly due to being completely out of sorts with the conditions. Would have been a completely different session on a bigger board I suspect .... better try and lose some weight then as wont be getting a 92 twinny until August :-(
